How to combat cravings!

So this is one of the most common questions I get from clients, how do I combat the cravings.

Well here are 4 simple tips that will help.

  1. EAT FAT – Including essential fats with your meals: Use avocados, nuts, seeds, oils such as coconut or extra virgin olive oil - fats help stabilise your blood sugar and often the blood sugar fluctuations cause cravings. Fats with meals also slow digestion which again will leave you feeling fuller
  2. INCLUDE CARBS - in your post workout meal: Not only to help stabilise blood sugar levels, but also to replenish glycogen stores, I am personally a big fan of having something sweet post workout to crush those cravings, a good example would be coco pops which are essentially just dried forms of rice with chocolate.
  3. EAT CARBS AT THE END OF THE DAY - Not only will you look forward to this carb meal, but slow releasing carbohydrates raise your levels of serotonin (a calming neurotransmitter), which helps you relax and unwind.
  4. HAVE A COUPLE OF SQUARES OF DARK CHOCOLATE IN THE EVENING- This might seem a very strange one to you but the health benefits of dark chocolate (over 80% cocoa solids) really shouldn't be overlooked. Dark chocolate is loaded with minerals such as magnesium and iron, and it’s rich in antioxidants. The best dark chocolate you can get which is the least processed is manufactured by Lindt. I personally use the 90% cocoa option
